On 8 January 2016, a workshop was held at the Bodleian Library, Oxford to study and discuss the implications and impact of library users’ digital photography on research and curating in special collections. With funding from the John Fell Fund, the participants were a mix of researchers – the users doing the digital photography – and librarians – managing that process. Several of the participants turned their presentations into papers and those are presented here.

Prior to the workshop, the Bodleian also conducted an experiment – inviting users of their special collections reading rooms to upload their photographs to a Flickr site. The process and results of that experiment are also discussed here.
